Return-to-Work Career Coaching

Returning to work after maternity leave, long-term sick leave, an international assignment, or a structured personal break is more than just picking up where someone left off—it’s a personal and professional re-entry that requires thoughtful support.

At Atypical Careers, we support professionals re-entering your company after time away, helping them recalibrate, reintegrate, and thrive—especially when the return involves relocation back to Denmark or transitioning into a new role.

Our 1:1 career coaching program provides targeted support that blends emotional readiness, professional alignment, and practical planning.

Program Overview

10-hour coaching program (Lite version 6hrs)
Delivered in English or Spanish, either online or in person
This program is ideal for:

  • Employees returning from maternity or medical leave

  • Professionals rejoining after an international assignment

  • Former employees returning through outplacement or DEI initiatives

  • Individuals relocating (back) to Denmark for reintegration

Session length: 1 to 1.5 hours

Recommended pacing: 1:1 sessions over 3 months.

  • Pre-Return ( 1 session)
    Prepare for re-entry with a strategic and emotional readiness session, ideally held 1–2 weeks before the return date. This can include: Kick-off Alignment Meeting (Coach + Returner + Manager) a 30 minute session at the start of the session to: Clarify expectations and goals, discuss support needs and working styles, and align on a shared 90-day success vision.

  • First 90 Days (Core – 5 to 7 sessions)
    Ongoing coaching every 1–2 weeks during the first three months back, focusing on confidence rebuilding, stakeholder re-engagement, energy management, and 90-day impact planning.

  • Post-90 Days ( 1 session)
    A wrap-up session to reflect on progress, adjust long-term goals, and strengthen re-integration.

What We Cover – Tailored to the Returner

Each coaching journey begins with a personalized intake and is fully customized to the individual’s context, role, and history with your company. Depending on their goals and the nature of their leave or relocation, we may explore:

Reconnecting with Role & Identity

  • Clarify current role expectations and career direction

  • Rebuild confidence and ownership after time away

  • Reflect on how their skills, needs, and values have evolved

Cognitive & Emotional Load Management

  • Energy management and prioritization techniques

  • Introduce micro-resilience tools for managing stress

  • Normalize emotional swings or mental fatigue post-leave

Repositioning Professional Identity

  • Explore how their identity has evolved and how to communicate that

  • Practice reintroducing themselves to teams and stakeholders

  • Craft a narrative that bridges their past experience and current goals

First 90 Days Planning & Impact

  • Co-create a 90-day success plan with milestones and feedback loops

  • Identify quick wins to build early momentum and visibility

  • Align with manager expectations and navigate team dynamics

Stakeholder Mapping & Relationship Building

  • Map key collaborators and identify priority relationships

  • Practice reconnecting with presence and strategic intent

  • Address any shifts in roles, teams, or power structures

Reintegration into Culture & Norms

  • Decode current team habits, unspoken norms, or rituals

  • Offer cultural coaching, especially relevant to Danish workplaces

  • Explore hybrid work transitions, new tech tools, or communication styles

Communication & Positioning

  • Build clarity and self-advocacy around boundaries and flexibility

  • Support clear communication around goals, responsibilities, and needs

  • Prepare for performance conversations or role redefinition

Goal Setting & Career Planning

  • Use adaptive frameworks (e.g., flexible OKRs) to plan with realism

  • Balance short-term deliverables with longer-term career focus

  • Incorporate feedback strategies for early alignment and course correction

  • Explore growth opportunities within the company aligned to personal evolution

After Each Session

Returners receive:

  • A written summary with clear takeaways and action points

  • A focused assignment to keep momentum

  • Tailored resources, tools, and reflective prompts

Midway Check-In (Optional)

To ensure alignment and transparency, we offer an optional midpoint update for HR:

  • A brief non-confidential progress summary

  • General feedback on engagement and focus areas

  • Early insights into returner support themes

End-of-Program Feedback to the Company

At the conclusion of the program, we provide:

  • Confirmation of participation and completion

  • General non-confidential feedback shared by the returner

  • Optional insights related to reintegration support or broader talent themes
